Does your child like to make-up stories? Or write stories? Or maybe they’re just not into sport, or you've tried other things, and you’re looking for something different. Something creative. Or maybe, just maybe, you have the next Stephen King or J.K. Rowling. Wouldn't you like to encourage that!
Whatever the reason, now is the perfect time to introduce them to the wonderful world of imagination with writing classes!

We’ll talk about fun stuff.
Whether you're young or old, make believe is vital. Dragons. Witches. Wizards. They are all fun to talk about, even better fun to write about. (Harry Potter proved that theory correct)! But there's lots more to investigate too, the colour, light, and texture of our world. Smells, sounds, tastes; there's so many wonderful exciting things to think about, and to write about.
How it works:
I introduce our topic for the week. We have a round table discuss as I ask various questions, which uncovers their story. At the conclusion of this time, they start their writing time, which is usually about 15 to 20 minutes.

Then its time to share their stories.
Sharing their story is essential to the creative process. It confirms that they can do it. It builds confidence in their ability. There are no bad stories! Each story has an element of brilliance. I will find the gold in their stories and tell them how to uncover more. I will always be constructive, enthusiastic and supportive. That's my promise to you!
Children can also work on their stories at home and return them the following week. I will write comments and go over their work with them, prior to, or after class.

SECONDARY STUDENTS
Now that you are older, you have different ideas. Your own style of writing. You might like to explore more complex topics, look at issues in more depth. The secondary class is very creative. Let's face it, if you are still writing it means you are either very talented or passionate, so it's awesome, and a privilege for me, to share our writing for an hour a week.
The class is about letting go for a bit. About creating new and exciting worlds where you are the ruler. It’s about using your imagination, having fun with words, creating great characters and lots of action. About delving into your emotions, and writing with passion about things in which you believe.
Along the way, you’ll learn some pretty cool stuff about putting words together, and remember, writing is a skill and with practice, your words can leap off the page. That’s what great writing does.
At this level we also focus on writing for competitions, if that is something that interests you.

How it works
- We will begin the session in a relaxed atmosphere to discuss the topic for the week. I will share my knowledge on a particular topic/theme, then we will discuss it and I will always be keen to hear your thoughts and ideas!
- Sometimes we will read from other authors, and discuss their work. Their techniques/styles.
- Other times we might listen to music, something you like. Or maybe my choice.
- I might use art to motivate you.
- I will certainly use taste and smell to stimulate your senses.
- I will ask you what is important to you.
- All of these activities will be our warm-up.
- You will then write for about thirty minutes without interruption ... simply putting pen to paper, or fingers to keyboard if you prefer. (Bring your own device).
- Then you will read your work aloud. This can be very intimidating at first, but feedback and sharing ideas is paramount to the success of any writer.

About me:

I am Leeanne Vernon, author of the top selling Netball Dreamz series & Lenora Girls’ School. I have a diploma in Creative Arts, Professional Writing & Editing from R.M.I.T. I studied at U.C.L.A during the pandemic. I love writing. In the past, I was an elite netball coach, so being a writing coach is exactly the same: instructing, correcting, encouraging!
Writing, like all things, is a skill that can be learnt and improved upon. I have spoken at many schools about my books, and writing, so I am well qualified to bring out your child’s creativity.
I have a “Working with Children” card.
